Saltwater and sweetwater fishing action continues to be excellent throughout Connecticut.
Jim and Mike Micinilio had another good day in the Bridgeport/Fairfield area on Wednesday. The two brothers said that the bite started off slow, but that the action picked up as the day went on. The Micinilio boys ended the day catching 33 bluefish up to 30 inches and 50 Striped Bass including 9 keepers ranging from 28 to 42 inches. The largest bass of the day was caught on a live bunker in 6 feet of water and weighed in at 32 pounds.
Captain Jim Sinclair of Oxford reported in that he and his father landed several Stripers and a Few Blues during their first trip out to mid sound. The largest bass of the day measured 40 inches and weighed 25 pounds. Earlier in the week Captain Sinclair took his 4 year old son Grady fishing near the mouth of the Housatonic. The father son team caught several fish including Grady's first Striped bass ever.
Jim Orifice of Jimmy O's Bait and Tackle in Bridgeport was able to do some fishing of his own last week. Jimmy joined Rolando Boland of Ansonia for some Cod fishing in Gloucester MA. Both anglers caught plenty of fish, but Rolando came out on top landing the largest Cod of the day, a 30 pound beauty.
Other highlights from Jimmy's shop were Melissa Tucci landing several Crappie, Largemouth at an undisclosed location, Bryan Ewell of Bridgeport weighing in a 6.50 Pound Walleye along with several others which were caught at the Saugatuck Reservoir and Eric Monks of Bridgeport weighing a monster 3.35 pound Winter Flounder
Nick Vitello of Trumbull reported that the recent children's fishing derby which was held at Twin Brooks Park in Trumbull was a great success. All the kids who participated had a great time
and the top three junior anglers took home prizes. Those three are: Rachel Starr who took 3rd place with a 9 inch Pond Shiner, K.J. Sokol in Second with a 10" Crappie and the winner John Kizildag who caught an impressive 12 inch Catfish. All three kids are from Trumbull.
